Reflection
For my first photo set of 3 product shots with models I wanted to do makeup ads because I’ve always really liked makeup and my job revolves around makeup so I see those types of advertisements all the time. I chose my favorite perfume, a face scrub from my favorite skin care brand, and Pillsbury cinnamon rolls that I used to bake with my mom for my three product stills. For my conceptual photos I chose three issues that I am very passionate about, meat consumption, trash in the oceans, and the effects of smoking.
I found it hard at first to capture nice looking images in regular places considering the lighting was varied indoors and in the sunlight. While indoors, since the lighting was often too dark, I realized the shutter speed was low and I often came out with blurry images. I ended up taking most of these photos close to my window so that they were bright enough but not so bright that there were harsh shadows. For three of my photos (the water glass, the perfume, and the face scrub) I decided to utilize Studio A to help with a professional looking end result. I also ended up using real flowers and petals for the background of the perfume photo.
I am fairly satisfied with the deliverable but I wish my Photoshop skills were more proficient. Given more time and skill, I would have been able to make the ashes and fire in the cigarette photo look more realistic and as well as the trash in the ocean for the photo of the water glass. I also now realize the aperture on a couple of my photos really should have been higher to allow more of the subjects to be in focus.
